Multi Skilled Lasher - Ref SC/59

Full-time - Permanent (five over seven shift pattern)
Port of Southampton/South Coast

South Coast Port Services (SCPS) are currently seeking a large number of Multi Skilled Lashers to be based in the Port of Southampton providing a lashing service to our customers across the south coast.

This is a great opportunity for anyone interested in working within the Port Industry and we welcome all applicants from the age of 18 to apply.  

The port operates 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

The role entails working any five over seven shift patterns including weekends and overtime allowing us to meet the demands of our customers.

The role includes multi lashing training to include: Cars, High and Heavy Vehicle / Machinery and Container lashing on various types of ships and for many of our customers.

A mini bus service is provided to get to and from work when working in other areas outside of Southampton Dock.

Start rate of pay £8.36ph and Premium £11.15ph

Multi trained rate of pay £9.65ph and Premium £11.53ph

This is a physically demanding job role, where all operatives work in a safety critical environment. Health and Safety is of paramount importance as well as a quality of service to exceed our customers’ expectations.


Main Duties/Responsibilities:

  • To work across the South Coast providing a lashing service to all our customers
  • Working on ships
  • Provide an effective and efficient lashing service in line with specific customer requirements and in line with Company quality processes.
  • Other duties associated with vessel loading/ discharging operations and mooring.
  • Ensure that customer requirements are met on both quality and standards.
  • All-round approach to work and adaptable to change.


The main requirements for the position are:

  • Flexible approach to working arrangements.
  • Ability to work as part of a team.
  • Good communication skills.
  • The ability to be able to carry out a physically demanding role.‍
  • ‍‍Valid full Driving Licence or taking lessons desirable / this will be an essential requirement for future development opportunities that may arise in other areas of working in the port.

All applicants will go through a selection process to be short listed for an assessment day which will consist of psychometric tests, manual assessment and interviews.

The assessment days will be held on Thursday 29th March, Thursday 5th April and Thursday 12th April.
