HR Advisor - 1yr Maternity Cover Ref: C/59

Full-time - Fixed Term Contract 1 yr

South Coast Port Services Ltd (SCPS) are seeking a HR Advisor to cover Maternity Leave‍‍‍, to be based at our Container Division in Southampton. ‍‍‍The role will be office based Monday to Friday for 37.5 hours a week.‍‍‍

This is a unique opportunity for someone who wishes to join a hardworking and friendly Company in the shipping industry. You will work closely with the General Manager and HR Administrator to ensure a high-quality HR service is delivered to the business.

Main Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Managing all aspects of sickness absence, liaising with occupational health and employees to ensure the impact of absence on the business is minimised.
  • Dealing directly with employees on all HR related queries.
  • Managing the entire employee life cycle; which includes developing job descriptions, designing job adverts, shortlisting, running the assessment days, interviewing, selecting candidates and managing the candidate until offer.
  • Providing expert HR advice and support to small line management team ensuring good people management practice is adopted with particular focus on performance management.
  • Providing expert advice on all formal procedures to ensure they are legally compliant and run smoothly. Reviewing and drafting new policies and procedures and updating existing policies and contracts of employment.

The main requirements for the position are:


  • CIPD Qualified
  • Full Driving Licence
  • Previous experience of working in a busy HR Department
  • Self-motivated
  • Calm and organised
  • Ability to draft and check HR related documentation
  • Personable and friendly
  • Professional, confident and with a can-do attitude
  • Solid grounding in employee relations


  • Previous experience of working in a unionised environment
  • Qualified in psychometric testing
  • Policy development
  • Coaching skills

All applicants will go through a selection process to be short listed for an assessment day which will consist of psychometric tests and interview. Selected candidates will receive full training for the position.

Assessment days will be held either on Wednesday 30th August or Tuesday 5th September 2017 and the interviews for successful candidates will be held on Thursday 31st August.
