So, my journey began on the 20th July 2017. I remember it well due to the fact that for the 1st time in nearly 30 years I really had no idea what I was letting myself in for. I had recently decided to go for a complete change in career direction... I was not disappointed!

Although it took me a while to adjust to the hours and the expected tasks on a daily basis, it eventually came to me that this new environment would be one for the long term. I made it clear to my employers that I wish to be considered for future promotions and additional responsibility if the opportunities arose. I spent the first three months of my employment for the agency division working on the RORO vessels with a clear view of moving towards our container division as soon as the right vacancy became available.

In September of last year I successfully applied to the container division where I quickly became an integral part of the Labour contracting to DP World Southampton. My new duties be it extremely physical were positively accepted and within a 4 month period I gained competency in 3 disciplines that gave me recognition by way of a 'yellow hat' for my achievements way ahead of expected timing.

Within the last few weeks I have recently been accepted through a successful interview process to become a multi skilled operative and I am awaiting my first day driving the Dock's most reputable 'toughest work horse' in the straddle carrier.

To sum up my brief career with South Coast Port Services over the past 8 months, it has been fast moving and a lot to endure however, if you put to your mind to it and show willingness then the opportunities will present themselves. I have equally been impressed with the training and support that SCPS have provided me with and am now looking forward to my next challenge.

Thanks.

Matt - MSPO (1435)

I have worked for SCPS for 2 years now. In that time I began as a terminal operative on the quay, I am now the first female terminal operative trainer for SCPS. I train new employees how to pin ships containers and drive the 36.5 ft high shuttles.

I enjoy working for SCPS because you get to meet people of different cultures and backgrounds and also the variety of different jobs that are offered to you, to widen your skill set.

Kind regards,

Amy - SCPS TO ATAP Trainer
