South Coast Port Services (SCPS) has a long tradition of port operations - over six decades. SCPS provide skills and services to operators and other customers at the Port of London Gateway and Southampton. We are currently seeking to recruit Empty Container Handler Operators - to be based at the port in London Gateway.
This is an industry where all operatives work in a safety critical environment. Health and Safety is of paramount importance.
The port operates 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. This role entails working a two week shift pattern of 5.45am - 12.45pm and 12.15pm - 20.15pm rotated Monday to Friday and every other Saturday 6am - 12pm.
£9. 67 per hour, Driver skills payment £2.00 per hour with an additional £2.00 per hour premium working supplement.
Operating an empty container handler to move and stack empty containers.
Directing truck drivers and advising office team of any damages that may occur.
Checking and grading of all boxes that arrive on site.
Other duties associated with container stacking / un-stacking operations.
Ensuring the timely unloading/loading of vehicles in line with expected turnaround times.
Making sure all shipping line stock is rotated, long stay boxes are loaded first where possible.
Adherence to Company Policies and ensuring the services provided are carried out in a safe, timely and cost effective manner.
- Current, Full driving licence.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Ability to understand and follow instructions.
- Ability to work under pressure and time restraints.
- Excellent understanding of health and safety.
- Previous experience in a similar role either working in the docks or operating machinery.
- Good IT skills and ability to use In-house Systems.
All applicants will go through a selection process to be short listed for an assessment day which will consist of psychometric tests and interview which will be held on Monday 6th November and Tuesday 7th November 2017.
Selected candidates will receive full training for the position.
