Operations Manager - Container Division

South Coast Port Services (SCPS) has a long tradition of port operations - traversing six decades. With a head office based in Southampton, providing stevedoring skills and services to operators and other customers at the Port of Southampton, London Gateway Terminal and other port facilities.

SCPS have four divisions and we are currently seeking an Operations Manager to be based at our Container Division in Southampton.
The role will be office based Monday to Friday for 37.5 hours a week.

As Operations Manager, you will be will be responsible for the day to day running of the Operations Department, ensuring effective and efficient delivery of services to our customer. You will be responsible for a team of managers and supervisors and provide them with guidance on various operational and management issues as necessary. In conjunction with the General Manager you will be responsible for improving performance, productivity, efficiency and profitability through the implementation of effective methods and strategies.
• Support the delivery of a highly satisfactory service to customers for both landside and shipside operations
• Providing a leadership support function to teams and motivating employees to achieve required goals.
• Make proactive contributions to improvement in working practices and procedures and drive through approved changes
• Build and maintain good and strong working relationship with key stakeholders
• To ensure full compliance with the Health and Safety at Work Act and all locally agreed safe methods of work for self and others
• Performance management
You will be educated to a degree level in Shipping and Port Management, Logistics & Transport or have demonstrable relevant experience with a similar industry. You will have previous experience in operations management/ supervisory role.
You will be computer literate in Microsoft Office applications and have excellent written and verbal communication skills
You will also have experience of working to tight deadlines in a high-pressure environment, have a high level of confidence, resilience and leadership skills to lead and develop teams to achieve set goals.
NEBOSH/IOSH qualifications and Knowledge of International and Port Facility Security and International Maritime Dangerous Goods codes will be desirable.
